How do you keep your towels fluffy?

PreviousPage 2 of 2

That’s such a thoughtful discussion! I totally agree that the type of towels matters just as much as how we care for them. I remember when I first switched to high-quality, 100% cotton towels-it was like night and day! They stayed fluffier for longer, even with the same washing routine. It’s amazing how much a little investment in good-quality towels can pay off in the long run. I also love the idea of treating towel care as part of self-care. It’s those small, mindful habits-like using the right detergent or shaking out towels before drying-that add up to a more comfortable daily routine. What’s your go-to trick for keeping towels soft and fresh? I’d love to hear more tips from everyone!

A few years ago, I moved into a new apartment with hard water, and my once-fluffy towels turned into stiff, scratchy rags after just a few washes. I tried everything-vinegar rinses, fabric softener, even buying expensive 'luxury' towels-but nothing worked long-term. Then, my neighbor, who’s been using the same towels for a decade, shared her secret: she washes them in cold water with a half-cup of baking soda, skips the fabric softener (which coats fibers and reduces absorbency), and dries them in the sun. I gave it a try, and within a week, my towels were soft again! The lesson? Sometimes the simplest solutions-like avoiding heat and harsh chemicals-are the best. Now, my towels stay fluffy for months, and I’ve even converted my skeptical roommates. Hard water isn’t the end of fluffy towels!
